Copper Mine Peru

SUPPLY AND COMMISSION OF HIGH VOLTAGE MOTOR START/CONTROL SOLUTION AT OVERSEAS MINING OPERATION DURING PEAK COVID

  • CSE COMPANY: CSE UNISERVE
  • SOLUTION: ENERGY
  • CLIENT: MINING, VARIOUS

CSE Uniserve were engaged to supply and commission a high voltage motor starting and control solution at a remote copper mining operation in Peru – during the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

SCOPE OF WORK:

PRODUCT RECOMMENDATION AND SUPPLY:

Given the project’s need for a low-maintenance, reliable solution with high-starting torque and low-starting current, CSE Uniserve recommended the installation of a Unistarter EPMA LRS unit, designed for longevity in the often-harsh environments of mining operations.

REMOTE COMMISSIONING:

New, heavy equipment installation has complexities that are best managed by a team of trained experts. If set up incorrectly, problems that arise will be costly, time consuming, create an unsafe workspace and will deteriorate the equipment unnecessarily.
In normal circumstances, CSE Uniserve will generally deploy a specialist team to commission any and all of the equipment that we stock, ensuring that the solution is ready-to-operate in alignment with safety and regulatory requirements upon completion.
However, given that the timing of installation works at the copper mine in Peru fell within the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, an alternative means of remote commissioning was required to get the job done.

OVERCOMING TIME DIFFERENCES:

Due to the time difference between the East of Australia and Peru, who operate on an almost opposite time zone, Uniserve’s lead technician and project manager worked six consecutive night shifts as remote support during the commissioning.
To ensure all steps were undertaken with due care and to necessary standards, Uniserve’s technician consulted via a livestream platform to oversee the process and provide instruction, as well as to troubleshoot any issues that arose.
Thankfully, the process was relatively seamless – preventing extended downtime and excessive costs to the client.
As a company that has undertaken countless mining installation projects, Uniserve understands that any down-time due to repair or fault can cost a mine a huge amount, so the solution provided must minimise delays to enable operations to get back up and running – even if it means working at the witching hour!

ONGOING SUPPORT/MANAGEMENT:

Through dedication and perseverance, whether on site or remotely assisting, the Uniserve team always ensure the quality and integrity of their work is maintained.
CSE Uniserve have continued to consult with the copper mining company and hopes to be able to visit site for a formal equipment inspection in due course.
